A Tribute to Greg Whiteside

Dear Friends It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of our dear friend Greg Whiteside who passed away today after a short illness.

Greg was the principal of Rangjung Yeshe Shedra in Nepal and
ed it from a small volunteer based organisation into the internationally renowned Institute we have today.  Greg tirelessly served Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche helping to fulfil a vast number of
Rinpoche´s projects and assist all our sangha around the world for many years.

Greg was great man with many fine qualities; kindness, thoughtfulness, appreciation, patience and diligence, which he put into action without partiality. He was a perfect representative of our sangha embodying all we would hope to be. Greg showed by example how service is practice and, when joined with true devotion, has remarkable results.

It was clear to all that Greg loved his family from the bottom of his heart. Anne, Alex and JoJo have a special place in our hearts and we hope that at this time of great loss, they take comfort in their memories and love, and rejoice in their precious time together with such a special human being.

May Greg act as an inspiration for us all and may his legacy for the pursuit of harmony be practised and fulfilled.

To benefit Greg, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche has advised:
“Whatever practice you are doing, also dedicate the merit to Greg. The sangha should also recite the Sangchö Mönlam (King of Aspiration Prayers) and the Künsang Mönlam (Dzogchen Samantabhadra Aspiration Prayer).”

Words from our Spiritual Director, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche:
"There are many types of philosophy, truth - seeking positions about what is. Buddhist philosophy has one special quality; that the awakened state is within, and we are in a state of readiness; it is ready to be discovered. It is said in a scripture, “All sentient beings are buddhas, but they are covered by temporary obscurations”. Every sentient being has as their nature original wakefulness – what in the general teachings is called buddha nature. Because of possessing this original mind, the buddha potential, everyone can become enlightened. Everyone is allowed to be a buddha; everyone has that ability, that readiness. From ´Indisputable Truth´: Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche
